World of Trouble has been just that for his opponents lately, and he will attempt to add a grade 1 turf victory to his Carter Handicap (G1) win on dirt this year when he faces eight foes June 8 in the $400,000 Jaipur Invitational Stakes (G1T).
The six-furlong test on the Belmont Park grass is one of eight grade 1 events on a blockbuster Saturday card anchored by the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1).
World of Trouble rides a four-race winning streak entering the Jaipur, and that number could have been seven but for a neck defeat in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) behind Stormy Liberal. The 4-year-old Kantharos colt took the May 3 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes Presented by MassMutual (G2T) by daylight in his last outing and won the Carter two back. Owned by Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, and Bethlehem Stables, World of Trouble has a world of early speed and won his only other start at six panels. He was bred in Florida by Darsan out of the Valid Expectations mare Meets Expectations.
"He's a killer horse. A monster. A champion horse," trainer Jason Servis said. "He has a grade 1 on the dirt, and this is a grade 1 on the turf. It would be nice if we are fortunate enough to get the (win) for stallion reasons. He would be a grade 1 winner on turf and dirt if he can win the Jaipur.
"He's been training pretty good. I'm very pleased with the way he is coming up to this race. I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic."
Although Disco Partner is the defending champion of the Jaipur, which was run as a grade 2 event last year, he will have to prove he is better than World of Trouble to repeat. The Patricia Generazio homebred took a stakes on the Belmont inner turf last autumn and finished third in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. He has no early speed to speak of and has to hope someone can soften up World of Trouble early.
Belvoir Bay is a logical contender and has been first or second in five consecutive starts, including runner-up efforts in the Al Quoz Sprint Sponsored By Azizi Developments (G1) and the Monrovia Stakes (G3). Her stalking style could prove handy if the Peter Miller trainee can punch home in the stretch.
The popular 9-year-old Undrafted makes his second start of the season here after a gaining fourth in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs last month. His past few victories have come in allowance company, but he could improve in this outing. He's had a win and two other in-the-money finishes from four Belmont starts.
Graded winner Om will also be saddled by Miller and could potentially apply early heat to World of Trouble. He has been more of a miler to this point but has lacked a winning finishing kick at that trip.
Dirty comes off a score in the King T. Leatherbury Stakes at Laurel Park but was defeated twice by World of Trouble last year.
Gidu is capable of running strongly but lacks a graded victory. Most of his races have been at seven furlongs or longer, and he was fifth in the Mathis Brothers Mile Stakes (G2T) in December. This will be his first start of 2019.
