Trainer Chad Brown dominated the standings for the three-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival Championship presented by NYRA Bets at Belmont Park, while Joel Rosario and Klaravich Stables were the top jockey and owner, respectively.
The June 6-8 event featured 33 races and 18 stakes, including eight grade 1s Saturday, highlighted by Sir Winston's victory in the 151st running of the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1).
Brown saddled nine winners, including an astounding seven stakes. Brown easily earned the "Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons Award for Outstanding Trainer, going 9-7-3 with 27 starters. His horses posted a 33.3% win rate and earned more than $2.7 million.
On Belmont Stakes Day, Brown won three grade 1s. Guarana took the Acorn Stakes (G1) over Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) victress Serengeti Empress, Rushing Fall captured the Longines Just a Game Stakes (G1T), and there was a Brown-trained trifecta in the Manhattan Stakes (G1T) when Bricks and Mortar, Robert Bruce, and Raging Bull ran 1-2-3.
Brown, who has won the last four NYRA year-end training titles, boasted multiple stakes winners on each day of the festival. Starting Thursday, Cambier Parc bested stablemate Newspaperofrecord in the Wonder Again Stakes (G3T), and Significant Form hit the wire first in the Intercontinental Stakes (G3T).
On Friday, Separationofpowers took the Bed o' Roses Invitational Stakes (G3), and Homerique and Competitionofideas finished 1-2 in the New York Stakes (G2T). Brown had six more wins during the festival than his next-closest competitors. Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen and Todd Pletcher each recorded three wins.
Rosario won the Eddie Arcaro Award, posting seven wins and five runner-up finishes in 23 mounts, highlighted by his brilliant ride aboard 10-1 Sir Winston to win his second Belmont Stakes. Rosario first won the Belmont Stakes in 2014 when Tonalist upset Triple Crown hopeful California Chrome .
Rosario's seven wins were four more than the four jockeys who tied for second. Rosario's mounts earned more than $1.5 million, and he posted a 30.4% win rate. On Friday, Rosario won the True North Stakes (G2) aboard Catalina Cruiser.
Earning the August Belmont II trophy was Klaravich Stables, which notched three wins and four runner-up finishes and collected $929,040 in earnings. Among the highlights was Bricks and Mortar, co-owned by William Lawrence, winning the 1 1/4-mile Manhattan, and Separationofpowers capturing the Bed o' Roses.
With paid attendance on Belmont Stakes Day of 56,217, the lucrative card generated all-sources handle of $102,163,280, a NYRA record for a non-Triple Crown year.
