Yo Zackly Becomes First Winner for Lent

Yo Zackly breaks his maiden June 15 at Hastings Racecourse

Yo Zackly became the first winner for freshman sire Lent June 15, when the 2-year-old gelding proved much the best in a maiden special weight at Hastings Racecourse.

Running for Pocket Aces Racing Stable and trainer Steve Henson, Yo Zackly was away alertly and rushed to a clear lead under jockey Alexander Marti in the 3 1/2-furlong sprint for juvenile maidens. He posted fractions of :22.45 and :33.45 en route to a 6 1/2-length victory in a final time of :39.37.

Yo Zackly was bred in British Columbia by Helen Klimes out of the Funontherun mare West Coast Fun, and sold to Randy Henson for CAN$2,279 through the Klimes Farm consignment to the 2018 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's British Columbia Division Mixed Sale. He won at second asking after running third June 2 in a maiden special weight over the same distance at Hastings. All four of the mare's foals to race have been winners.

Lent, a son of Pulpit, stands at Emerald Acres in Aldergrove, British Columbia, for a CAN$1,800 fee. He was bred in Kentucky by Janis Whitham out of the Broad Brush mare Arlucea, and is a half brother to grade 1 winner Fort Larned  and grade 3 winner Walkabout
