Bayerly Seen is alone at the wire June 18 at Indiana Grand Race Course
Hill 'n' Dale sire Bayern was represented by his first winner June 18, when the 2-year-old filly Bayerly Seen aired by 12 1/4 lengths upon debut at Indiana Grand Race Course.
The Brad Cox trainee led five rivals through opening fractions of :22.78 and :46.08 in a $31,000 five-furlong sprint for maiden juvenile fillies, drew off under jockey Fernando De La Cruz, and won handily in a final time of :58.24.
Bred in Kentucky by Hartwell Farm out of the unraced First Defence mare Overseen, Bayerly Seen was a $25,000 purchase by Gastar Thoroughbreds from Hartwell's consignment to the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She failed to meet her reserve at $65,000 when consigned by Hidden Brook to the Ocala Breeders' Sales April Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, and made her debut Tuesday for GenStar Thoroughbreds and Hidden Brook Farm.
Bayern, the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner of 2014, retired to stand at Hill 'n' Dale in 2016 for a $15,000 fee, which has remained unchanged through his four seasons to date at stud. The son of Offlee Wild, bred in Kentucky by Helen Alexander out of the Thunder Gulch mare Alittlebitearly, earned more than $4.4 million with a 6-1-3 record in 15 starts for owner Kaleem Shah and trainer Bob Baffert. His other graded wins came in the William Hill Haskell Invitational (G1), Pennsylvania Derby (G2), and Woody Stephens Stakes (G2).
