Causeforcommotion wins the Santa Barbara Stakes at Santa Anita Park

Already with a graded stakes win at 1 1/2 miles to her credit this season, Causeforcommotion will stretch out a bit more and take on males when she starts in the $100,000 San Juan Capistrano Stakes (G3T) June 23 at Santa Anita Park.

The 1 3/4-mile San Juan Capistrano is the featured race Sunday at Santa Anita, closing day for a meet that was troubled by breakdowns.

A 5-year-old daughter of Emirates Melbourne Cup (G1) winner Americain, Causeforcommotion will return to the same course where she recorded a nine-length victory over fillies and mares in the May 11 Santa Barbara Stakes (G3T). After that effort, trainer and part-owner Eric Kruljac gave her a try at the top level, and she contended early before fading off the board in the May 27 Gamely Stakes (G1T) at Santa Anita.

Since that 1 1/8-mile turf event, Causeforcommotion has been working well at Santa Anita. She posted a pair of bullet moves on the training track this month: five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 June 12 and a half-mile in :49 1/5 June 19.

Causeforcommotion isn't the only horse in the expected field of eight entered off a grade 1 start. Mongolian Stable's Mongolian Groom finished fourth in the May 27 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes (G1). Earlier this year, the 4-year-old son of Hightail earned a top-level placing when third behind Gift Box and McKinzie in the April 6 Santa Anita Handicap Presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino (G1).

The San Juan Capistrano will be the first time Mongolian Groom has raced in a stakes on turf after last year earning his initial win on the grass in a maiden race at Santa Anita.
