Grade 2 winner and first-year sire Camelot Kitten has been sold to Brazilian trainer/agent Edson Alexandre on behalf of clients who intend to syndicate the son of Kitten's Joy and stand him at Haras Rio Iguassu.
Camelot Kitten, who was bred and raced by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, entered stud at Questroyal North near Stillwater, N.Y., where he stood for $5,000. After being contacted about the stallion through bloodstock agents representing the Brazilian horsemen, the Ramseys decided to sell Camelot Kitten because he did not attract the support in New York they'd expected, according to Mark Partridge, the farm manager of Ramsey Farm in Central Kentucky.
The stallion is expected to ship to Brazil July 21.
Out of the Forestry mare Celestial Woods, Camelot Kitten is a full brother to grade 1 winner Bobby's Kitten and black-type winner Major Magic.
Camelot Kitten raced from 2 to 5 and won four graded stakes: the American Turf Stakes (G2T) at Churchill Downs, the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T) at Saratoga Race Course, as well as the Pennine Ridge Stakes (G3T) and Hill Prince Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park. He also won the Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes at Turfway Park and retired with a 6-3-0 record out of 23 starts and earned $1,069,477.
Haras Rio Iguassu also stands Kentuckian, a 7-year-old son of Tiznow whom the farm acquired in 2018. Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Kentuckian won the Lazaro Barrera Stakes (G3) and was third in the Los Alamitos Derby (G2) for Fox Hill Farm.
