Freshman sire Fury Kapcori was represented by his first winner July 13 when Napa Rules gamely broke her maiden at Gulfstream Park.
Making her third start for trainer J. David Braddy, 2-year-old Napa Rules found her best stride in a $35,160 maiden claiming race over five furlongs. With Hall of Famer Edgar Prado in the irons, the Joel Sainer homebred dueled for the lead inside throughout with Sweet Belen, continued to battle on equal terms into the stretch, gained a slim advantage past the furlong marker, and held for a one-length win.
After opening fractions of :23.08 and :46.83, the final time was :59.93 on a fast main track.
Napa Rules was entered for a $25,000 tag but was not claimed. In her first two starts, both at 4 1/2 furlongs, the Florida-bred filly finished fifth and then third. She is the second foal out of the Roar of the Tiger mare Perfect Stoli, whose two to race have been winners. The mare produced a He's Had Enough colt named Hangar One in 2018 and foaled a full brother to Napa Rules in 2019.
Fury Kapcori, a grade 3-winning son of Tiznow , raced to a 6-5-1 record from 18 starts and was retired with earnings of $521,040. He stands at Journeyman Stallions in Ocala, Fla., where his 2019 fee was $2,500.
