Woodbine's $125,000 Ontario Colleen Stakes (G3T) attracted 10 3-year-old fillies going a mile on the inner turf July 20, and a strong pair from the U.S. is set to face off with two tough locals.
E Five Racing Thoroughbreds' Seek and Destroy completed her juvenile season with a frontrunning victory in the Oct. 28 Chelsey Flower Stakes, taken off Belmont Park's turf. She returned May 18 and rallied to add the seven-furlong Soaring Softly Stakes (G3T) to her résumé.
Chad Brown last saddled the Verrazano filly for a third in the June 22 Wild Applause Stakes where she faded from first in the one-mile race.
Making her fifth North American start is Bermuda Thoroughbred Racing QOB's Queen of Bermuda. The Exceed And Excel filly began her career with William Haggas and won a pair of stakes in Europe at 2, including the William Hill Firth of Clyde Stakes (G3) at Ayr Racecourse.
She was fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, and in three starts with Graham Motion this year, Queen of Bermuda has placed in stakes twice. The Ontario Colleen will be her first start beyond six furlongs.
Brent and Russell McLellan and trainer Stuart Simon's local runner Sister Peacock will attempt to make it three in a row Saturday. The Real Solution filly carries a consistent 4-2-0 record from six starts and enters off sprint victories in the April 21 Star Shoot Stakes on Tapeta and June 8 William D. Graham Memorial Stakes on turf.
Both close defeats came at a mile when she lost the lead at the end.
Mark Casse trains Joey Gee Thoroughbreds' Speedy Soul, who tries turf and the mile distance for the first time. She won on the Tapeta going 1 1/16 miles June 30 in the Bison City Stakes, and two starts before, the Souper Speedy filly won the seven-furlong Fury Stakes May 12.
