Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Heider Family Stables, and Madaket Stables' Mia Mischief, a winner in three of her last four starts, carries winning momentum into the $200,000 Honorable Miss Handicap (G2) July 24 at Saratoga Race Course.
Six fillies and mares are entered for the six-furlong sprint on the main track.
Mia Mischief bested grade 1 winner Marley's Freedom by 1 3/4 lengths in the seven-furlong Humana Distaff (G1) May 4, then ran down record-setting Covfefe in the six-furlong Roxelana Overnight Stakes June 22. Both victories were at Churchill Downs, where trainer Steve Asmussen trained the 4-year-old Into Mischief filly before moving her up to Saratoga.
The 123-pound highweight, Mia Mischief will break from post 4 with regular rider Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard.
Next in the weights at 120 pounds is Lael Stables' Chalon, who cuts back a furlong after running second in the June 7 Bed o' Roses Invitational (G3) at Belmont Park. The 5-year-old Dialed In mare has finished first or second in her last nine starts—all stakes—including a head loss in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1).
"She came back from her last race in good shape and we've been aiming for this one. I like this spot better because it fits better than seven (furlongs)," trainer Arnaud Delacour said. "She's been training well heading in and I'm excited to see her back. It looks like she's back in good form and ready to try again this year."
Chalon has won four stakes, all at six furlongs, but is still in search of her first graded victory.
"Now that she's an older mare, she's a pro at it. Wherever we run her, her (mindset is), 'OK, now we have work to do,'" Delacour said. "Hopefully, we run on a good track. The last time, she broke a bit slow and that's usually not her running style. She's usually right there and (running) just off the speed. I hope we can have a better trip this time."
Javier Castellano has the call from post 2.
Hooties Racing, WSS Racing, and Brent Gasaway's Honey Bunny, who won five straight races before running fourth in the Roxelana, is seeking her second graded stakes win. Trainer John Ortiz saddled the 5-year-old daughter of Tapizar for a victory in the six-furlong Winning Colors Stakes (G3) May 25 at Churchill Downs.
"This filly, she's proven herself that she can be up here and can compete with the best fillies in the country," Ortiz said. "She was just a length (and a quarter) short of (the) winner in her last start in the Roxelana so we're going to give her a shot here. It's a grade 2, and nowhere better to do it than here."
Tobey Morton's Pacific Gale has placed in four grade 3 events and was a neck shy of winning the Vagrancy Handicap (G3) May 11 at Belmont Park. She was fourth last out in the Bed o' Roses.
Two Louisiana-breds complete the field, with Colonel Thoroughbreds' Ours to Run entering off six consecutive stakes wins. While five were against state-breds back in Louisiana, she defeated Mia Mischief by 3 3/4 lengths in the April 6 Carousel Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Brittlyn Stable's Minit to Stardom, second to Ours to Run in December and February, enters off back-to-back allowance victories in the Mid-Atlantic region.
