The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) has cataloged 273 yearlings to its Canadian Premier Yearling Sale, scheduled for Aug. 29 at the Woodbine sales pavilion at Woodbine Racetrack.
The auction begins at noon EDT.
Topped by an Old Forester filly sold for CAN$125,000, last year's sale saw 152 yearlings gross CAN$2,816,900, for an average price of CAN$18,532, and a CAN$10,750 median.
Featured on the catalog's cover is 2014 Canadian champion 3-year-old Heart to Heart, the US$2-million earner bought for US$25,348 at the 2012 edition of the sale.
Other sale graduates pictured on the catalog cover are 2017 Canadian Horse of the Year and US$1.14-million earner Pink Lloyd, 2017 Canadian champion turf male Johnny Bear, and grade 3 winner Summer Sunday.
Among stallions represented in the catalog are this year's leading top four Canadian sires Silent Name , with 12 yearlings cataloged; Giant Gizmo , 26; Old Forester , 16; and Souper Speedy , 26.
Reload tops the first-crop sires by yearlings entered with 25. Other first-crop sires with yearlings cataloged are Ami's Holiday (8), Dynamic Sky (6), Flintshire (1), Hyper (7), Tourist (3), and War Dancer (2).
Horses that go through the ring at the yearling sale are eligible for a series of sales stakes at Woodbine. On the Aug. 28 Woodbine program this year, six stakes are carded for sale graduates, with purses totaling CAN$750,000.
