Description:

Live racing at Laurel Park has been canceled for Friday, Jan., 23 due to track conditions. Laurel and its sister track, Pimlico Race Course, will be open for simulcasting. The cancellation is the second this week after the track dropped the Jan. 19 holiday card.

"It has been the same thing all week. The track is freezing at night and thawing during the afternoon. It is just uneven. For the safety of the horses and riders this is the best decision," Maryland Jockey Club general manager Sal Sinatra said. "Until we can get some consistency, with it being either above freezing or below freezing for 24/7 where (track superintendent) David Whitman can work it, we are going to be touch and go every day."

Live racing is scheduled to resume Saturday, Jan. 24 with a 12:30 p.m. EST post time. The nine-race card features the Frank Whiteley Jr. Stakes and the Marshua Stakes, both $100,000 events for 3-year-olds.
