Barry Ostrager's homebred filly Wharf Cat became the first winner for freshman sire Majestic City  when she broke her maiden July 29 going five furlongs at Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack.

Monday's maiden attempt was the second for the gray or roan filly, who finished second in her July 15 debut.

Guided by Jaime Rodriguez, Wharf Cat tracked the pace behind early leader Beautiful Amaila, who set fractions of :22.58 and :46.83. Asked to go in the final strides, Wharf Cat dug in and got up to win by a neck at the wire in a final time of 1:00.51 on a fast track.

Wharf Cat is trained by Oscar Barrera III. Bred in New York, she is the second foal out of the Rockport Harbor mare Harbor Cat and the only one to race. Harbor Cat also has a yearling Majestic City colt.

A son of the late City Zip, Majestic City was bred in Kentucky by Trackside Farms and Robert and Helen Evans out of the Meadowlake mare It'schemistrybaby. A precocious 2-year-old, Majestic City went on to earn grade 3 honors in the 2011 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes. He would be grade 1 placed twice in his freshman campaign, finishing third in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and second in the Dixiana Breeders' Futurity (G1).

Majestic City would win one more grade 3 event as a 6-year-old, taking the Lone Star Park Handicap by two lengths in 2015. He was retired to stud at Questroyal North in Stillwater, N.Y. The past four seasons he has stood for a fee of $3,500 live foal.
