William Buick took a hiatus from racing in May to recover from post-head injury syndrome

William Buick is hoping to make up for lost time, returning to the saddle last week after being sidelined for over two months while recovering from post head-injury syndrome.

The rider sustained the injury when falling on the way to the start at Ascot in May and had to wait until Aug. 2 before he was cleared to return to race-riding.

Buick wasted little time in returning to the winner's enclosure with his first ride back aboard Lazuli, scoring on debut for Charlie Appleby the evening of Aug. 2, and the jockey was on target again at Newmarket the following day when he partnered with Rose of Kildare for Mark Johnston.

Sunday marked a successful return to the group 1 stage when Buick finished third aboard Space Blues for Appleby in the Larc Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, and he appears to have quickly knocked off any ring rust.

Buick is keen not to dwell on the injury and enforced absence.

"It's good to be back and nice to get back rolling in the rhythm of things, " he said Monday. "I'm looking forward to the whole season ahead. I'm looking forward rather than looking behind."

Buick will have more opportunities to add to his two comeback winners Wednesday evening with a brace of rides for Appleby and Godolphin at Kempton, before possible outings at Sandown and Newmarket later in the week.
