Maximum Security heads to the track before the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park

While TVG.com Haskell Invitational (G1) winner Maximum Security's next start is still to be determined, the 3-year-old son of New Year's Day completed a two-minute mile the morning of Aug. 7 at Monmouth Park, with clockers catching the dual grade 1 winner in :54 flat for four furlongs.

Trainer Jason Servis said he would "probably decide Aug. 19 or 20," where Maximum Security will race next. The Aug. 24 Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course and the Sept. 21 Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx Racing are possible options.

"I just want to make sure he is 100%," Servis said. "He's still not there yet."

Servis said Maximum Security went a two-minute mile overall on Wednesday.

"He went the first half in 1:06 and the second half in 54 (seconds)," Servis said. "He did good. I was just getting some air in him. Nothing serious."

Among his top-level scores, Gary and Mary West's Maximum Security also won the Xpressbet Florida Derby (G1). He has not finished worse than second in seven starts, but was the first horse to be disqualified from first place for interference during this year's Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), with the Churchill Downs stewards placing him 17th after he finished in front by 1 3/4 lengths.
