Hotshot Anna Back at Presque Isle for Satin and Lace

After a pair of impressive stakes wins last year on the synthetic surface at Presque Isle Downs, Hotshot Anna will aim for a repeat performance Aug. 19.

Owner/trainer Hugh Robertson has entered Hotshot Anna in the $100,000 Satin and Lace Stakes, a six-furlong test for fillies and mares that the daughter of Trappe Shot  won by 3 3/4 lengths last year. The Satin and Lace is a prep for the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (G2), which Hotshot Anna won by 4 1/4 lengths last year.

Hotshot Anna again enters the Satin and Lace in good form. She posted a 2 3/4-length score in her most recent effort, an allowance optional claiming race Aug. 3 sprinting on the turf at Arlington International Racecourse. Hotshot Anna has won five of her past six starts and has finished first or second in eight consecutive races dating to April 4, 2018.

Bred in Kentucky by Paul Tackett, Hotshot Anna is the most accomplished filly or mare by her sire. She is his leading female earner and the lone female to win a graded stakes.

Awaiting Hotshot Anna in Monday's test will be this year's Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G3) winner, Late Night Pow Wow. A 4-year-old daughter of Fiber Sonde, grade 1-placed Late Night Pow Wow has won 12 of 14 starts and enters off a clear victory in the Twixt Stakes July 14 at Laurel Park. The Satin and Lace will be her first start on a synthetic surface.

The field also includes last year's Satin and Lace runner-up, Crazy Sweet, who went on to finish third in the Presque Isle Downs Masters. Despite those efforts, the Presque Isle-based daughter of Majestic Warrior is 30-1 on the morning-line.
